Helping Hands Bridging Program is a personalized service that enables seniors and people with disabilities to remain as independent as they choose. We do this by bringing assistance right to where our clients are: in their own homes, in assisted living environments, in hospital, or another location such as a long term care facility. Our services arose out of an unmet need that we recognized while we met and spoke with clients and their families during the course of operating our personal care home. Helping Hands Personal Care Home is a home setting in which our 10 residents receive 24 hour, 7 days per week care and assistance. We found, however, that many potential clients were reluctant, unable or unwilling to leave their homes and move to Helping Hands Personal Care Home. For a variety of reasons, ranging from financial to personal preference, their desire was to remain in their home and have caregivers come to them to provide care and assistance. Helping Hands Bridging Program began with 1 client, a prominent Regina physician who wished to remain in his home, and utilized current staff who worked in Helping Hands Personal Care Home at the time. Today, 3 years later, our client list has grown to 30, and we employ 2 Bridging Program Coordinators and 15 staff who are devoted only to our Bridging clients.
