Helping Hands Personal Care Home meets and exceeds all the safety requirements of Saskatchewan Health’s Personal Care Homes Regulations. We offer the following safety features:

Environment Related Safety/Security Features

  • call bell system in all resident bedrooms and all bathrooms in the home
  • entrance/exit notification on all door into the home
  • alarm monitoring of all entrances/exits during night hours
  • personal monitors available for dementia residents to notify staff when residents who need assistance are attempting to stand without help
  • fire extinguishers present in the home and inspected regularly
  • heat-activated sprinkler system in all areas of the home and inspected annually.
  • smoke alarm system in all areas of the home and inspected monthly
  • sprinkler system alarm bell inside the home
  • 4 exits from the home in case of emergency
  • “safe house” established with neighbors in case residents need to be evacuated
  • no smoking is allowed in the home or on Helping Hands’ premises
  • wheelchair accessibility in all areas of the home
  • all parts of the home are well lit
  • night lights are on during night hours
  • emergency lighting throughout the home in case of a power outage

Staff Related Safety/Security Features

 

At Helping Hands we are committed to providing the highest level of independence possible for residents while maintaining their safety and security.

 

  • manager of home on-call and reachable 24 hours per day in case of emergency
  • low staff/resident ratios so that several staff are always available at one time to supervise, assist, and interact with the residents during daytime hours
  • night staff are awake at all times and check on residents frequently
  • all staff trained in first aid
  • all staff trained in dementia care and violence-avoidance strategies
  • all staff trained in the proper provision of personal care
  • all staff trained in emergency actions in case of fire or resident-specific concerns
  • LPN and RN available 24 hours per day
